Teaching Methodology

As an infinite amount of positions may arise in the game of chess, I prefer to teach general principles that can be applied to most positions. With that in mind, my style of teaching focuses on positional chess: including an emphasis on common pawn structures, how to approach open vs closed positions, and how to create, spot, and target weaknesses. Going over examples of historic games to demonstrate how top level players used key ideas to win in crucial situations, I like to not only show students the importance of strategic ideas, but also inspire them to love the game for all it's history and magic.
